We are going to tackle one of the knitting basics….socks! We are going to teach both basic socks and intermediate sock techniques in this 2018 series. You can take the whole series and end up a fearless sock knitter, take just the basic class series and learn sock construction, or if you are already a sock knitter and are ready to step up your game you can just take the intermediate classes!
The series will begin with a 3-meeting class for Beginner Socks! This will teach you the basics of sock construction. Once you have built your first sock and know where you are in a sock you are equipped to understand all the other ways of making a sock!
Class 1 - starting the sock
Class 2 - the heel and gusset
Class 3 - finishing sock and Kitchener toe
Skills required:
- cast on
- knit, purl, basic increases and decreases
Materials:
- #2 or #3 DPN’s
- 400 yds heavier sock yarn (a self-striping or patterning yarn makes basic socks fun)

#2 – Toe-up Socks
The series now progresses into incorporating a design into the sock and another method of sock construction, toe-up in this case. We will go over Judy’s magic cast on for seamless toes, a demo of differing needle options for socks and finessing your heel.
Class 1 - starting the sock with toe-up method and Judy’s Magic Cast-on
Class 2 - patterns, needle options, heel techniques
Skills required:
- cast on
- knit, purl, increases, decreases, yarn-overs
Materials:
- #2 or #3 DPN’s or circulars for method of choice
- 400 yds sock yarn
